Culture Shock, 2, 20"x24"x16", steel, 2000

Each time I return to the US from Mali, I experience profound and painful culture shock. It is a feeling of discomfort and disorientation in an environment that is seemingly familiar. I think it would be a useful topic for exploration in my work, but it is usually too painful to want to focus on until it has dissipated, by which time it is too late. Rats, I've missed it again. The two books, Culture Shock 1 and 2 are an initial attempt to try to pay attention to the phenomenon and make works which investigate it.
