Kalabougou, 45"x60", photo collage, 1997

Honoring the potters of Kalabougou, this photo collage is about the lives and the work of the women. The viewer first notices the large image of pots at the center. Stepping closer, one can see serial images of the life of two women both producing pots and engaging in other activities with her family, cooking, getting water from the well. On closer examination still between the central image of pots and the border images of the women is a single line of text that runs around the four sides, one entrance on each side. This text provides concise commentary about social, political and economic aspects of the lives of the women.
