| In 2000, after ten years of genealogical research, Goldner traveled to Poland and the Ukraine to visit the towns her grandparents emigrated from. Then in Lithuania, she created Can We Heal ?, a large sculpture for the collection of Europos Parkas, an outdoor sculpture museum. Can We Heal? continues Janet's ongoing series of smaller hinged steel books and draws heavily on her invented vocabulary from that and other previous work. This 4-foot tall 5 -page hinged steel book asks in Lithuanian and English, "Can we heal from the wounds of our tortured history? Lithuanians, Russians, Poles, Germans, Jews, Everyone." |
